Consultation on National Action Plan on Human Rights and Business

November 12, 2018: Partners in Change in partnership with Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) is organising five city consultations in Bangalore, Delhi, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar and Guwahati, on National Action Plan on Human Rights and Business. The first two consultations were organised in Guwahati on 20th of September 2018 and Jaipur on 23rd October 2018, which Human Rights Defenders, UN organisations and other International NGO's. In taking forward this agenda, the third consultation was organised in Bangalore, in partnership with Indian Institute Bangalore (IIMB).

As you may be aware, there is an increased interest within the Indian government spaces over the issue of business and human rights. Moving in this direction on the 20th June 2018, MCA placed an updated version of the National Voluntary Guidelines on Social, Environmental and Economic Responsibilities of Business for public comment, through which they have reiterated its commitment to Human Rights.

The consultation was with the businesses, academic institution, CSR-based NGOs, enforcement agencies, community members and human rights experts including grassroots NGOs. The Consultation focused on Human Rights, Business Interface of these rights, Challenges faced in accessing them and the Remedial step, in case of violation.
